History

Financial aid to high school seniors and college students interested in Highway Industry careers has been a priority of ASHE Sections/Regions and members for many years. Records show several of the Section annual scholarship programs began in the 1980s and there may have been others given sporadically during earlier years of ASHE.

 

NY Metro Section of ASHE is pleased to announce the continuance of its Scholarship Program for the 2017-2018 calendar year.

Going Forward

ASHE encourages all Sections and Regions to support a scholarship program of some type, whether it is one or two $500 or $1,000 awards or larger amounts to more students.

NY Metro Section is pleased to announce Sponsored Scholarships for FY 2017-18. ASHE NY Metro Sponsored Scholarship are as follow:

  • $2,500 HAKS Scholarship
  • $2,500 AECOM Scholarship
  • $2,500 GPI Scholarship
  • $2,500 HDR Scholarship

Eligibility:

  • The applicant must be enrolled in an undergraduate program (currently as a freshman, sophomore, or junior) at an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) college / university leading to a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably Civil Engineering.

  • Must attend a college or program located in the Metro New York City.

  • The applicant must submit a completed application.

  • Letters of Recommendation: Each applicant must submit one recent (within the last 6 months) letters of recommendation, from someone familiar with the applicant’s educational and career goals or from someone in the community (such as an employer, clergy, Boy or Girl Scout leader), but not a relative.

Amount:

  • The amount of each scholarship and number of awards are based on the funds collected.  For 2017-2018 Term, there will be four (4) scholarships, each of $2,500.

Due Date:

  • Applications must be postmarked by December 4, 2017 for the 2017-2018 Named Firm Scholarship.

Final selection of the scholarship winners will be decided by a scholarship advisory committee (subject to the approval of the Board of Directors of ASHE).
